"Hypnotherapy for weight loss" is one of the most searched hypnotherapy topics in Australia. The short answer: hypnotherapy is not a diet and nobody can promise you a number on the scales. What it can do is help with the habits, urges and stress that sit behind how you eat.
The honest answer
Weight is shaped by many things: sleep, stress, health conditions, medication, movement, genetics and what is on your plate. A hypnotherapist works with only one part of that picture, the habits and feelings around food. So at Neuro Reset Studio we talk about weight habits, not weight loss. We do not make weight loss claims, and you should be careful of anyone who does.
What hypnotherapy can help with
- Eating on autopilot: snacking in front of the TV or finishing the packet without noticing
- Stress and emotional eating: reaching for food to calm down, reward yourself or fill a bored evening
- Strong evening urges: the pantry visit that happens most nights at the same time
- Inner talk around food: the "I have already blown it" voice that turns one biscuit into ten
- Sticking with changes you already chose: feeling calmer and more consistent with the plan from your GP or dietitian
If emotional eating sounds familiar, our guide to the emotional eating habit loop explains how cues, routines and rewards link together.
What a session looks like
- Talking it through. We map your patterns: when urges arrive, what you feel just before, and what you want instead.
- Relaxation. A guided, focused state where you stay aware and in control. More on that in what happens in a hypnotherapy session.
- Rehearsing a new response. Imagining the trigger moment and practising a calmer choice, so it feels familiar when the real moment comes.
- NLP tools. Simple ways to change the self-talk and pictures that drive the urge.
- Something to practise. A short recording or routine to use between sessions.
Most people book a short program rather than one session. Our Habit Rewire Program is 3 sessions, in person in Berwick or online.
Gentle things you can try today
- Eat regular meals so evening hunger is not doing the deciding.
- Before snacking, pause for three slow breaths and ask "Hungry, or tired, stressed or bored?"
- Move the most tempting food out of sight, and put a glass of water or a cup of tea in its place.
- Notice one urge a day without judging it. Awareness is where habit change starts.
When to see your GP first
Please see your GP before or alongside any habit work if your weight has changed quickly without a clear reason, you have a health condition or take medication that affects appetite, or eating feels out of control, secret or restrictive. The Butterfly Foundation helpline (1800 33 4673) supports people with eating and body image concerns. Hypnotherapy is complementary support and does not replace medical or dietetic care.
