Anxiety is one of the most common mental health challenges, affecting millions of people worldwide. While medication and traditional therapy can help, many people are looking for extra, practical ways to manage everyday stress alongside their usual care.
NLP coaching offers a powerful set of tools for understanding and shifting the thought patterns that fuel anxiety. Here are five techniques you can start using today:
Anchoring: This technique involves associating a calm, confident state with a physical gesture (like pressing your thumb and finger together). By repeatedly practicing this association when you're calm, you can trigger the same state during anxious moments.
Reframing: Anxiety often comes from how we interpret situations. Reframing involves consciously choosing to view a situation from a different, more empowering perspective. For example, instead of 'I'm going to fail,' try 'This is an opportunity to learn and grow.'
Visual-Kinesthetic Dissociation: This technique is used to view difficult or anxiety-triggering memories by viewing them from a dissociated perspective, which some people find lowers their emotional charge.
The Swish Pattern: This technique helps replace negative mental images with positive ones, helping to change the automatic thought patterns that trigger anxiety.
Future Pacing: By vividly imagining yourself handling future situations calmly and confidently, you're programming your subconscious to respond differently when those situations arise.
These techniques work best when practised regularly and ideally with the guidance of a trained practitioner. At Neuro Reset Studio, we use these and other NLP coaching techniques to support clients in working with anxiety at a deeper level.
